The Sound of Contingency
December 5th, 2010 by CollectionofUK based art organization, Urbanomic, recently commissioned artist Florian Hecker to create a sound piece with additional non-sonic elements exploring themes from speculative realism philosopher Quentin Meillassoux’s book After Finitude (2008) — a provocative text that has caused quite a stir since it’s publication. Springboarding off of the role of mathematics in Alain Badiou’s work, Meillassoux proposes the laws of nature to be radically contingent against Kant’s notion of human finitude.

This project is emblematic of Urbanomic’s ongoing effort in presenting the intersection of art production and philosophy. Iterations of Hecker’s commissioned sound piece to be presented at The Tate, Instal at Glasglow, and also as a CD release in the future.
